Hand harvesting by the D’Apolito family at their vineyard.
Day 16: September 17, 2023
Vineyard: La Pruina, Torre Santa Susanna, Puglia
It was a wonderful morning at the D’Apolito vineyards in Torre Santa Susanna, where the family began the hand harvesting of Negroamaro grapes. Â The first morning was meant to be “fun”, where the kids got to participate in what is now a yearly ritual. Â Over the next 2-3 days, they will continue to harvest these grapes by hand and deliver them to Oria Wines, where they will go through the fermentation process under the watchful eye of Teo. Â Teo’s dad prefers to harvest by hand because he says these particular vines will get “stressed” if harvested by machine.
